Currently, across the United States, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of organizations, campaigns, and movements combating Asian hate. While there are many to choose and pick from, the first one I will be covering is Stop AAPI Hate

Let's start off by talking about the purpose, goals, and initiations Stop AAPI Hate have done. According their website, Stop AAPI Hate was launched on March 19, 2020 after there was an alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry coronavirus events. Their mission is "to advance equity, justice, and power by dismantling systematic racism and building a multiracial movement to end anti-Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate." While reporting a situation can be overwhelming for victims and families, words have power, and by simply coming forward, one has the opportunity to share their stories in hopes of educating others, but how should one tell their story or a story from their community?

Below holds four ideas on how to tell a story with a statement. All the information originate from the Stop AAPI Hate website (https://stopaapihate.org/resolution-template/), so be sure to check there for more details.

Additionally, Stop AAPI Hate created a list of Do's and Don'ts when using language and messaging regarding cases of hate, harassment, and discrimination. Below, I have written out the Do's and Don'ts:

DO:

1. DO capture the diversity of the community, and acknowledge that hate impacts all AAPI's

2. DO note the limitations of data

3. DO encourage everyone to be part of the solution

4. DO build solidarity between AAPIs and other communities

5. DO lift us as a resource

DON'T:

1. DON'T exotify or other the AAPI community

2. DON'T center or limit messaging to the AAPI community's accomplishments

3. DON'T talk about racism as a virus

4. DON'T reduce hate to violent and interpersonal attacks only

5. DON'T perpetuate trauma
